We often hear these phrases, step into your power, own your worth. But what do they really mean and how do you do it?
To be in your power is to be in alignment with what feels true to you. To be in your power is to trust that you are in the right place at the right time. When you are truly in your power it should not feel forced in any way.
To be in your power is to claim your joy and happiness, deliver your gifts and own the part in your life that YOU create.
Want to know what all successful people have in common? They are centred firmly in their power. They listen to their inner guidance and no-one else. Yes…this may sound a bit woo-woo but stick with me.
At some point in their lives, everyone (yes even you) has truly experienced a moment that has made them feel powerful, confident, strong and unstoppable. And this moment has nothing to do with other people, or how they might feel. This is all about you. That’s stepping into your power. And that’s the feeling you want to replicate and develop again and again.
So how do you do it?
Mantra’s and daily affirmations are a great place to start and can be more powerful than you think. The key to a good affirmation is specificity because it gives your brain a very clear set of guidelines on what to process for you. The more you say positive things about yourself, the more this solidifies in your mind, meaning overtime your mind views these statements as fact. This is because affirmations are grounded in scientific theory and help to engage your cognitive bias (beliefs we have without justification) in your favour. When you use affirmations, you are teaching your brain a new way to think about the world. This changes what your brain processes on your behalf, leading you to see different things and have different thoughts, until the landscape changes so much that you get what it is you affirmed. If you’re stuck on what affirmations to say, start with google and see what resonates most with you. If you don’t believe the affirmation and it doesn’t generate positive feelings for you, it won’t generate the power you are looking for.
Write down your wins and how you positively impact people. This can be both in your personal and professional life. No matter how small you may think it is, make a note of it and read it often. Over time, you will begin to identify the values that make you, you. Getting to know yourself is one of the most powerful things you can do. When you know yourself, you can control yourself, and when you can control yourself, you can control your life.
Decide to follow through. Every time. Mentally prepare yourself to tackle head-on whatever obstacle is standing between you and your goal. The journey of stepping into your power is not easy. You will fall, but ensure you keep get back up twice as many times. There will be days you want to escape back to the comfort zone. Be patient with yourself. When this happens, ask yourself: Why did you leave in the first place? That’s your why. Continue from where you left off until you reach your goals. Consistency is key.
Self-love. I truly believe that one of the stepping stones towards self-love is to give yourself what you crave from others. Whether this is confidence or attention – BE YOUR OWN MUSE. Often in life, we’re trained from a young age to seek out validation from external sources when really all we want is to validate and believe in ourselves with full conviction. Very often this comes down to TRUST. We don’t believe we are really capable of giving ourselves what we need and so we keep chasing for that ‘thing’ in all the wrong directions. The more we keep chasing, the less we trust and connect with ourselves. A common theme I often see with my clients is that, it’s apparent that they’ve never truly given themselves the chance to change or to start afresh. They’ve never trusted that they had the power or confidence to do so. Low self-worth has such a knock-on effect into every action you do or do not take. What if you dedicated 30 minutes out of your day towards self-praise and begin to eliminate negative self-talk. There is no faster way to feel alive. You are capable of doing anything you put your mind to. Just because you’re you. That is your superpower.
It’s up to you now. You create the life you live, so are you going to give yourself a chance to show up and step into your power, or are you going to hide in the side-lines?
